Dining Options for Holiday Break and Winterim

All Blugold Dining locations, with the exception of Blu Plate Diner in Marketplace, will be closed until the Winterm session begins on January 5th. Blu Plate Diner will be open 7:30am to 3pm for breakfast and lunch, Monday, Tuesday and Friday of Christmas week and New Year’s Week.
Blu Plate Diner, Sub Connection and a self-serve salad bar will be available starting Monday, January 5th.

Finals Week Specials and Night Owl Hours

Blugold Dining will be offering extended hours and late-night, study break specials next week in Marketplace, Hilltop Center Food Court and Library Grounds .
Library Grounds will be open until 1am, Sunday through Wednesday, and offer $1 Hot Tea, $2 Hot Chocolates and $3 Cappuccinos from 10pm to 1am each night. Marketplace will extend its hours to 10pm, Sunday through Wednesday and feature $1 House Coffee and $1 Giant Cookies from 8 to 10pm each night.Hilltop Center Food Court will be open until midnight on Monday and Tuesday and feature a 20 oz. fountain soda and any regular size candy bar snack combo for $1.89!

The Dulany Holiday Buffet

Students, faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the holiday season this year at our annual Dulany Holiday Buffet on Monday, December 15th, from 11am to 1:30pm. This year’s buffet will feature several delicious entrees including herb-Dijon crusted beef, grilled teriyaki apricot chicken, portobello mushroom ratatouille, plus assorted appetizers, side dishes, salads and desserts, all for $8.05 per person. To reserve a table for the buffet, please call the Blugold Dining office at 836-5261. Pre-paid tickets may also be purchased in our Davies Center office. We hope to see you there!

To All Meal Plan Holders

Your meal plan coincides with when the University conducts classes. The University controls when you are able to use your meal plan. There are several weeks throughout the school year which are partial weeks.

You have only paid for a partial week, not a whole week. Thanksgiving week is an example of a partial week with no meals being served on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. All meal plans for the Thanksgiving break were pro-rated by 57%.

Any questions regarding your meal plan should be directed to the Blugold Card Office.

Thanksgiving Week Hours

Blugold Dining will have some limited hours the week of Thanksgiving.

On Wednesday, November 26th, the following locations will close early : The Terrace and Riverview Cafe (close at 1:30pm), Intermezzos Cafe (close at 2pm), Marketplace (close at 4pm), Davies Corner Store (close at 4pm), Hilltop Center Food Court (close at 6pm). Cafe a la Cart, Higherground and Library Grounds will be closed all day Wednesday though the weekend.

No dining areas will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

On Friday, November 28th, Blu Plate Diner in Marketplace will be open from 7:30am to 3pm.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Join us for a special Thanksgiving Dinner the evening of Tuesday, November 25th at The Terrace and Riverview Cafe. We will be serving turkey with mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing, plus delicious side dishes, soups and salad bar. Desserts will include traditional pumpkin pie as well as pumpkin bars and pumpkin ice cream!

Cans Across America

Thank You to everyone who participated in our Cans Across America food drive! We were able to raise 2,947 pounds of food to donate to the Feed My People food bank in Eau Claire. Congratulations to NSSLHA, the student group winning a free pizza party and Activities and Programs, the faculty/staff group winning a free lunch in The Dulany!

Native American Buffet in The Dulany

Join us as we celebrate Native American History Month in The Dulany with a special heritage buffet on November 6 from 11am to 1:30pm. The buffet will feature a number of Native American entrees and sides including corn soup, sunflower bannock, venison sausage with peppers and onions, oven baked buffalo roast, pan roasted corn kernels, plus desserts such as maple pumpkin cheesecake, sweet potato pie, berry & corn cobbler and more! Doritos Sampling

On Monday, November 3 and Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, Blugold Dining will be giving away free bags of Doritos collisions in an effort to encourage students, faculty and staff to vote. The Dulany Halloween Buffet is Coming Soon!

Trayless Days

As part of UW-Eau Claire’s Sustainable Week, Blugold Dining will go trayless from Tuesday, October 21 through Thursday, October 23. By not using trays we lessen the environmental impact we generate here on campus. A significant amount of water and electricity is saved, food waste is diverted from landfills and above all, we make a small dent in reducing carbon emissions.

Dulany Latino Buffet and Upcoming Holiday Theme Buffets

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Dulany hosted the 4th annual Sabor Latino buffet on Thursday, October 9th. Over 125 students, faculty, staff and community members attended, including a local high school group! The menu included several popular Hispanic entrees, side dishes, salads and desserts in a festive atmosphere.

If you missed the Hispanic buffet, make plans to attend our spectacular holiday theme buffets. The Halloween buffet will be Friday, October 31st, the Thanksgiving buffet is Thursday, November 13th and the Winter Holiday buffet will be Monday, December 15th. All upcoming theme buffets will be held in the Council Fire Room (Davies Center) from 11am – 1:30pm, and feature appetizers, entrees, sides, salads and desserts. Trayless Tuesday Savings

Blugold Dining is excited to share with you the most recent results of our ongoing Trayless Tuesdays program. On Tuesday, September 16th we disposed of 245 pounds of solid food and 14 gallons of liquid. Compared to the next day, Wednesday, September 17th, students disposed of 425 pounds of solid food and 21 gallons of liquid, resulting in a savings of 180 pounds of solid food and 7 gallons of liquids not wasted.

On the following Tuesday, September 23rd, 295 pounds of solid food and 14 gallons of liquid were disposed of. On Wednesday, September 24th , 370 pounds of solid food and 20 gallons of liquid thrown, a savings of 75 pounds of food waste and 6 gallons of liquids between the two days! We would like to thank students, faculty and staff for their cooperation, together we can make a difference!

Composting Arrives to UWEC

Another first for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire! Blugold Dining has been selected to be the first commercial composting site in Eau Claire. Our elation in participating in this exciting new program underscores our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint on this campus. A trial run for this exciting initiative will be held the week of October 6th in Davies Center. Composting bins will be available in all Davies Center dining areas as well as other locations throughout the building. All food scraps are compostable along with our new Green Mountain coffee cups, lids, cup sleeves and stir sticks. Other compostable items include our eco-friendly paper plates, brown napkins, clear plastic cups, straws and utensils. All appropriate waste placed in the bins will be taken by Veolia Environmental Services to a local composting facility to be converted into bio friendly waste. If you have any questions about the composting trial, please let us know! We look forward to hearing from you.

Theme Buffets in The Dulany

On Thursday, September 18 and Wednesday, September 24, The Dulany hosted two special Chinese- themed buffets which attracted numerous students, faculty and staff to the Davies Center. A number of exciting dishes were served including spicy garlic shrimp, Chinese pork, vegetable stir-fry, and chicken lo Mein, just to name a few. There were also numerous side dishes, as well as two soups and salads available. If you missed the buffet, please make plans to join us for our upcoming Hispanic/Latino buffet on Thursday, October 9th. We will be showcasing popular Latino foods including steamed cod, arroz con pollo, Cuban sandwiches, baked tamales and many other delicious Latino dishes. Trayless Tuesdays

In an effort to protect our natural resources and support UW-Eau Claire’s Strategic Initiative of Sustainability, Blugold Dining is implementing Trayless Tuesdays this year at all our UW-Eau Claire dining locations. Trays account for a significant portion of our dishwashing – over 6,000 are cleaned each day on campus, resulting in over 396,000 gallons of water being used for this one purpose only. Going trayless lessens the environmental impact we generate here on campus. A significant amount of water and electricity is saved, food waste is diverted from landfills and above all, we make a small dent in reducing carbon emissions. So please join us every Tuesday in going treeless as we strive to become a more eco-friendly and sustainable campus.

Eco-Friendly Disposable Products

Many of you have noticed that knives, forks, spoons, plates, cold cups and coffee cups are different. The disposable products now being used at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire are eco-friendly and can be composted with ease. We at the UW-Eau Claire are trying our best to become more environmentally responsible and conforming to our University’s strategic plan to become an eco-friendly operation. The vast majority of the cost increase for the new disposable items is at exactly what it costs to bring these items onto campus, it is not a revenue generating product. The only exception is charging $.50 for ice water. The price for ice water is actually an effort to encourage the use of reusable water jugs or mugs because that is the most eco-friendly habit to process. Reusable jugs and mugs can be found at the bookstore as well as all retail dining outlets. Thank you for your help and understanding in our efforts to be more responsible with our environment.

New Dining Areas for Fall 2008

Blugold Dining is happy to announce five new dining areas on campus. Sub Connection replaced Blimpie in the Hilltop Center Food Court. Sub Connection serves a variety of hot and cold subs and wraps, along with two daily soups. We will also open a new self-serve salad bar at the Hilltop Center Food Court in the next few weeks. The salad bar will feature a wide selection of fresh vegetables, dressings and other toppings.

In Davies Center, Intermezzos Café is now open and has replaced Jazzman’s Café. Intermezzos features many Fair Trade certified coffees, all served in eco-friendly compostable cups. For your sweet tooth we also feature a large selection of house made muffins, bagels, cookies, cheesecakes and more! Also in Davies Center, a second Sub Connection opened with the same great menu as the Hilltop location. Next door to Davies Center in the McIntyre Library, we are opening Library Grounds in the first floor hallway. Library Grounds features espresso, mochas, lattes and other popular coffee drinks, along with a wide selection of grab and go sandwiches, salads and snacks.

Green Mountain Update

Jazzman’s Café metamorphosis to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is underway! Painting and some structural improvements started this week and will continue until the end of the month. Coffee varieties are being evaluated and a new selection of bakery treats for Green Mountain is being developed by our baker. Look for the new Green Mountain Coffee Roasters to open on August 28th! New Dining Areas for Fall Semester

Blugold Dining is introducing three new dining options to open this Fall.

SubConnection – Blimpie in the Hilltop Center Food Court and Marketplace will be converted to SubConnection and offer full line of classic, hot and toasted subs, wraps and salads.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters - Jazzman’s Café in Davies Center will be replaced by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. Green Mountain will offer all the traditional espresso beverages as well a much larger selection of Organic and Fair Trade Certified coffees all served in eco-friendly cups. A new selection of house made bakery treats will also be available.

Library Coffee Cart – A new coffee cart will be added in the McIntyre Library this fall serving espresso beverages, sandwiches, salads, bakery treats and other on-the-go items. Welcome to Orientation


Blugold Dining welcomes students and parents to Summer Orientation at UW-Eau Claire! The Dulany Opens for Orientation


This summer The Dulany will be open Monday through Friday from 11am – 1pm, June 9th through June 27th. We will be serving a lighter, summer menu with a variety of hot and cold foods. Campus groups are also welcome to reserve the historic Heritage room in The Dulany for a lunchtime meeting for up to 12 people.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters


Over the summer Jazzman’s Café will undergo a metamorphosis. It will make the transition to a new coffeehouse, one where the bakery changes from breakfast pastries to fine desserts through the day, all accompanied by delicious Green Mountain Coffee.

Salad Bar back in Marketplace

Starting May 19, Marketplace will again feature the popular Salad Toss salad bar. The salad bar will be open from 10:30am to 2pm Monday through Friday until June 6, and will reopen again in July after Orientation. Let us know how you like our Salad Bar. Earth Week Update

Thank You to everyone who dined in The Terrace or Riverview Cafe on Trayless Day, Thursday April 24. As a result of going trayless, we were able to reduce food waste by 54%!

Now we want to hear from you! Many college cafeterias across the country have or are considering eliminating trays to reduce food and water waste. Please take a moment and vote in our poll on the bottom of the left column. Please feel free to also leave your comments regarding going trayless here.

Administrative Assistants Buffet in The Dulany

On Wednesday, April 23, Blugold Dining hosted their first Administrative Assistants Buffet in The Dulany. The buffet featured three salad mixes with your choice of chicken, salmon or roasted vegetables, Pasta Primavera, two Soups and desserts.
